Transition to Parallel Learning

Dr. Andrew Cousins

Since the announcement in September of Clayfield College’s exciting transition to a coeducational school, beginning in 2023 using the distinctive Parallel Learning model, we have received enthusiastic and encouraging feedback from parents, staff, students and Old Collegians.

Last week, we held our Parent Forums where parents/caregivers could hear more about the College's transition and ask any questions. I thank all of the parents who attended; we had a lot of questions that we were able to answer. For the parents who could not attend, we have updated the FAQ section on our website.

There has been an enormous amount of work that has been happening to make this transition. Some of the more visible examples of the work being done as we transition towards Parallel Learning are the capital works projects and building refurbishments which are part of the College’s infrastructure investment.

Extensive refurbishment of the College’s Science Labs has already commenced and is due for completion in January, before the commencement of the school year. The College would like to acknowledge the philanthropic support of the Clayfield College Foundation in this project.

Through the support of our P&F Association, Old Collegians’ Association and Foundation, a number of refresh projects have been completed this year. This includes the upgrade to our Tennis Courts, the Assembly Hall refurbishment, Bayview Terrace welcome wall and gardens have undergone a makeover. You may also have noticed the removal of several obsolete buildings, including White Sands (next to the Business House), making way for future planning. Finally, the exterior of a number of College buildings will be transformed with new Mondo cladding and a refreshed colour palette.

Work on the College’s masterplan continues, and we are working closely with the PMSA Group Office and Board on this and expect to finalise the plan in the first half of 2022.

Encouragingly, since the announcement, the Enrolments team has received an increased level of enrolment enquiry. As of November, we have received nearly four times as many enrolment applications as the same period last year for entry in years spanning 2021 to 2031.

Over the coming months, we will keep you informed about developments with updates as information comes to hand, but if you have a specific question or concern, please send us an email to our special questions@clayfield.qld.edu.au email address.
