YEAR 11 UPDATE

This important information has also been shared via email so that all parents are informed about the College’s arrangements for Year 11 students. In particular, we would like to mention our changed arrangements for the end-of-year celebrations for the Year 11 cohort.

EXAMINATION ARRANGEMENTS

Unit 3/4 exams

Many of our Year 11 students are accessing Unit 3 and 4 subjects this year, which is a fantastic achievement. This means that these students will not only have their usual Year 11 (Unit 2) exams to write, but also the added responsibility to do as well as possible in their Unit 3/4 subjects.  Students will have received an examination advice slip (on green paper) in homeroom with details regarding date, time and venue of their Unit 3/4 exam.

  • Unit 3 and 4 exams began on Thursday, 28th October and students writing these exams have their individual timetables as determined by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority.
  • Students are expected to be at the exam venue (St. John’s Anglican Church Hall - on the corner of Hesse and Pollack Streets Colac) at least 15 minutes before the commencement of each exam.
  • Students are to familiarise themselves with the format for each exam and are to make sure that they have all of the necessary equipment for each exam. This includes items such as calculators, extra batteries and sufficient stationery. Students are allowed an unmarked bottle of water in the examination venue but are notallowed any electronic equipment. Mobile phones are expressly forbidden in the venue. Students should refer to their VCAA publication, Exam Navigator, for further information.
  • Unit 3/4 exams take precedence over Unit 2 exams and, should there be a clash between the two exams, alternate arrangements for the Unit 2 exam will be made with individual students. Students in this situation must make the necessary arrangements with Karen A Hart, our VCE Coordinator.
  • Year 11 students are required to be present at school for all Unit 3/4 classes until the day of their final exam, as subject teachers will be doing valuable revision with students during this period. Thereafter, students will have private study in the study area of the Resource Centre.
  • Year 11 students are not required to attend school on the day of their Unit 3 and 4 exam, but are certainly expected to attend school at all other times.

Units 1/2 exams

  • Normal classes for Year 11 students will conclude on Thursday, 11th November.
  • Unit 2 Exams begin on Friday, 12th November until Wednesday, 17th November. A copy of the Unit 2 examination timetable is attached and students will write all Unit 2 exams in the Rice Wing.
  • Students are expected to be at Trinity College 15 minutes before the commencement of each exam. Again, students are encouraged to ensure they have all the necessary stationery with them.
  • A room will be allocated for Year 11 students to complete exam preparation. This will be supervised by a staff member.
  • Should students decide they prefer to study at home, they are expected to leave the College directly after their exams and return home.
  • Students must wear full and correct Trinity College uniform during the exam period.

VCE UNIT 3 AND 4 COMPULSORY EARLY START PROGRAMME

All VCE students returning in 2022 to complete their Year 12 studies are to attend preparation classes for VCE subjects. This programme will commence on Thursday, 18th November. These classes are compulsory and are designed to provide an early start to Unit 3 and 4 studies by providing students with preliminary materials and notes, as well as with prescribed reading for the holiday period.

  • As these classes are timetabled periods, students must wear full and correct Trinity College uniform. Further details about these VCE preparatory classes will be given to students in the near future.
  • Each Unit 3 and 4 VCE subject teacher will provide 5 hours of core homework and possible extension activities for your child to complete over the break. It is also expected that each student will read the English texts over the holidays.
  • It is important that your child completes this homework before they return to school. This is so that Unit 3 and 4 classes can move quickly through the content and, in doing so, free up more time for exam revision at the end of the year. This is particularly vital as students are competing against more than 55,000 students across the state and this preparation can give them the edge they need. This homework will be checked off by teachers on the first day of classes next year.

VCAL COMPULSORY EARLY START PROGRAMME

VCAL students will be required to attend school on Monday, 22nd November for an introduction to the Senior VCAL Programme. Miss Pam Scott (VCAL Coordinator) will run these sessions to prepare students for next year. Students are expected to wear their full and correct Trinity College uniform.

YEAR 11 PRESENTATIONS (ACADEMIC AND SPECIAL AWARDS)

  • The Year 11 Presentations will take on a different format this year due to COVID restrictions. The presentations will take place at school on Monday, 22nd November in the Jubilee Centre. This day will also be a wonderful occasion for our Year 11 students to, as a cohort, celebrate their year’s achievements as well as farewell each other for the year.
  • All current Year 11 students are required to attend this presentation.
  • The Monday of the Presentations will commence with the last of the Early Start Classes during lessons 1 and 2. Thereafter, Year 11 students will share a lunch which will be provided by the school. During this activity, we will implement the necessary COVID-safe guidelines and social distancing as required.
  • After lunch, Year 11 students will meet in the Jubilee Centre auditorium for their final gathering of the year.
  • The event will be recorded so that parents will be able to view the ceremony at a later stage.

STUDY DAYS

  • We will also be offering students the opportunity to attend four days of supervised study at school on the 23rd to 26th November to begin their holiday homework.
  • These sessions are not compulsory but we strongly encourage students to attend these study sessions as this time will allow student the opportunity to complete their study preparation for 2022, htus giving them an opportunity to relax over their holidays.
  • Students are welcome to attend these days if they wish.
  • Parents are requested to indicate on PAM (SIMON) whether your child is attending the sessions as we require parental consent in order to make the necessary arrangements for these study days.
  • Students will be required to wear their full and correct school uniform.
  • Please note that the Student Leadership camp will be held on Thursday, 25th November and Friday, 26th November. Our senior student leaders will not be able to attend the study sessions on these days; instead, they will be meeting to plan and prepare for the 2022 school year.
