Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

It’s hard to believe that by the end of this week students will only have four weeks of school left for the year. I would like to encourage all our students to make the absolute most of their final four weeks.

There is no doubt that remote learning has impacted on student learning in some capacity. Our teachers have had a focus on where the gaps in learning are and are doing their best to provide opportunities for the students to catch up.

Ultimately, however, it is vital that students apply their best effort to their learning and seek out additional help if they require it. One way to get this extra help is to be part of the tutoring program.

If families have not taken up this offer this year, then I would encourage you to think about this for 2022 as we have had an indication that this funding required to offer this service will again be available.

This week our 2022 student leaders will begin leading weekly Advent prayers during homeroom. Advent is a time on the Christian calendar when preparations begin for Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

In the same manner, the message we will be sending to the students is for them to prepare for Christmas by looking outwards and seeing how they can help others who are less fortunate and in need.

It is pleasing to report that the Unit 4 VCAA examinations are progressing smoothly. The dedication and effort we are witnessing from the students as they prepare for these assessments is something we are all very proud of.

Their hard work also models a great example to younger students who witness the hard work of our senior students who are using the Resource Centre to study.

We are excited by the news that the refurbishments to our Mercy and Tuck wings are nearing their completion date. The construction industry restrictions as well as the difficulty in getting supplies has put this project back quite considerably, which means the new areas will not become fully operational until the beginning of the 2022 school year. Our new Year 7 students will be able to enjoy a fully renovated space inside and outside the Mercy Wing and the space allocated to both wellbeing and learning diversity has doubled in size.

The Tuck Wing has had an extra classroom added to accommodate the additional class of students we now have in most year levels. We have also been able to provide indoor locker spaces for all the students who will have their homerooms in the Tuck Wing.
