News From Miss Duffy

Whilst the year 5/6 students have been on camp, the remainder of the students have had some specialised reading and writing sessions using a mentor text. The book we have been taking a deep dive into is called Ellie's Dragon by Bob Graham which is the story of a little girl who has a dragon that only she can see, as she grows the dragon begins to disappear. Students have begun recalling or inventing their own invisible friend and have described that friend using adjectives and similes. Today we will turn these works into a story, which we can not wait to share with you all.

Writing with Miss Coffey

This term, students in Prep-2 are working with Miss Coffey. For the first half of the term, we are going to focus on different styles of poetry, including Acrostic, Question and Answer Poetry, Colour Poems, Cinquain and Haiku. In our first session, we discussed the purpose of poems (to entertain and engage the reader), how poems often paint a ‘word picture’ for the audience and that there are many different forms of poetry. In our first two sessions, we have focussed on writing an ‘Acrostic’ poem about our favourite food.  We look forward to sharing some of our poems with you in the coming weeks!

Drama

The drama fun continues in Term 4! Over the last two weeks, we have been revisiting and engaging in a variety of drama games and activities. Popular fairy stories such as The Gingerbread Man and Three Little Pigs have had us entertained as we’ve acted them out and used our best ‘character’ voices. A challenging activity we’ve just started to develop skills in is where students work in groups of 3 and are given a setting card (e.g. beach, train station, school etc.) and 3 characters (e.g. nurse, teacher, thief, truck driver etc.) They then need to put together a little ‘skit’ incorporating the setting, characters and a problem and resolution.

Outdoor Education

Our first week back after the term break saw us harvest our produce from the vegetable patch. We put a lot of the home-grown goodies to good use by preparing and cooking spinach and ricotta parcels and vegetable frittatas. The verdict on all counts was ... yummy!

Students were also able to pick and take home some delicious herbs and vegetables so they can recreate the fare at home.

Kelly Sports

We are so excited to offer six sessions this term of our very popular Kelly Sports Program. Coach Beau and his staff will be out on Friday mornings to take our kids through a range of activities.  Obviously with tomorrow being a student free day and missing last Friday due to the weather event, we will need to check with the team at Kelly Sports to see if we can move one or two of our sessions.
