News From the Principal

A reminder that tomorrow, Friday October 21st is a Pupil Free Curriculum Day. The staff will be in attendance and be working on curriculum and ordering student learning materials for 2023.

Our 5/6 students have been on camp this week at Anglesea and they are set to return this afternoon. It sounds as thought they have had a great time and we can not wait to learn of their adventures when they return to school next week.

Don't forget that as we are part of the City of Greater Bendigo, we take Bendigo Cup Day as our public holiday instead of Melbourne Cup Day. This means that  on Wednesday October 26th our school will be closed but we will be open on Tuesday November 1st (and have lots of fun planned for this day, see below).

Melbourne Cup Day Extravaganza

On Tuesday November 1st students and staff are invited to come to school dressed in Melbourne Cup themed attire.  Dress-wear can be inspired by Fashions on the Field, jockeys, bookies or even horses! We will host a morning parade and have activities all day related to the Melbourne Cup, including a sweep!

Recent Weather Event and Flooding

A huge thank you to all of our families and wider school community for their understanding and support over the past week following the heavy rainfall and subsequent closure of our school for two days. Student, staff and families safety is always the most important factor when making such decisions and although closing the school is a last resort, it was the only safe option last week. Staff were unable to access the site from Bendigo or Elmore and the bus route was severely affected by road closures and water over the road.

We hope that our families and the wider Raywood Community had minimal impact to property damage and/or flooding.

I am hoping today's and tomorrow's expected rainfall does not have any significant impact to our school operations but will keep families informed via direct messaging (text) if there are any issues with regard this. (A reminder that Friday is a pupil free day in any case, so that might be a good thing).

Camp- Year 5/6 Camp to Anglesea

Our Year 5/6 students and Mr Collins set off on Tuesday morning for a three day camp at Burnside Camp, Anglesea. They are joined by staff and students from Elmore Primary, OLSH Elmore, Colbinabbin Primary and Goornong Primary. Unfortunately due to the flooding around Echuca/Rochester the students and staff from Nanneella Estate Primary were unable to make the camp.

It sounds as though our students are having a great time and they are expected back this afternoon at around 3.30pm (pick up is the Lake Weeroona Car Park next to the Rowing Sheds).

A Generous Donation

We would sincerely like to thank Jan, the team at the Raywood Hotel and the wider Raywood Community for their generosity. This week Jan from the post office came down to school to present to us a jar of money filled with proceeds from the Friday Night Pub Raffles over recent times. This amount was just over $2.300 which is amazing and will go towards our efforts to fund replacement playground equipment. Currently the Friday Night Raffle proceeds are going towards the painting of the silos at the newly revamped railway station; another very worthy cause.

School Council News

Our next School Council Meeting is scheduled for Monday October 24th at 5.30pm. School Council members should have their packages with the agenda and Principal's Management Report, please let Lisa know if this has not reached you as yet.

That's all for this week- Lisa Duffy
