DEVOTION

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is central to Christianity. This term in Christian Studies, students will be learning about the life of Jesus his importance to the Christian faith. In Worship on Wednesday, Pastor Gavin Brown from the Baptist Church explained to us the mystery that Jesus is both God and human.

Colossians 1:15,19 tells us that Jesus is God. ‘Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation…For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ.’ This means that we serve a powerful God, the creator of the world, who is able to do more than we could ever ask or imagine.

In John 1:1-2 and verse 14, we read that Jesus became fully human. ‘In the beginning the Word [that’s Jesus!] already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He existed in the beginning with God. So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness.’ This means that we have a God who can identify with us in our suffering, and who was able to take our place on the cross.

How amazing that we have a God who is relatable and close to us, as well as being all-knowing and powerful beyond our imagination. Check out our Facebook page for photos of Pastor Gavin explaining this concept in a unique way!
