Learning Partners Request Form due this Friday 7 October.

At Toorak Primary School we believe that the school and home partnership is very important. The Department of Education states: ‘When schools and families work together, children can become more engaged with their schoolwork, achieve better academically, stay in school longer and develop better social skills”. As such this year TPS are including the parents in the conversations, with their child(ren), to nominate learning partners for 2023.The transition to a new class represents a major change event in children’s lives, so we’re preparing them through a range of different transition activities across this term. This supports our children in a way that builds confidence, resilience and a belief that they can handle change events like this when they occur.

To further ensure that everyone makes the best possible start to 2023, we hope that all students will spend time with their new teacher and classmates as part of our in-school transition program. Further information will be provided to families at a later date. Each year, Toorak Primary School students select the names of 5 students that they learn well with, and in 2022 we would like to include discussion with their parents/carers. We will endeavour to place your child/ren in a class with at least one of the students that you/they have nominated that they learn best with. We aim to set up each year for success, for teachers and students. This means that as well as making sure that all students have at least one of their nominated friends, we also endeavour to ensure that there is a balance of personalities, academic abilities, interests and preferences in each class. We are not able to take requests for teachers.

We also acknowledge that in certain cases, some students are not a good fit together in a class. If there is someone you think your child should not be placed with, please email toorak.ps@education.vic.gov.au with a short explanation, by Friday 7th October. Your request will be considered but not guaranteed. Please don’t assume that requests from previous years are sufficient information – we acknowledge that relationships, behaviours and interactions change year to year.

To ensure that students and their families feel confident about nominating 5 friends that they learn well with, we are asking you to complete the google form below with your child(ren). Please make sure that as a family you agree that all of the names on the list make great learning partners for your child. We also ask that you select 5 different names as Learning

Thank you for taking the time to have this important conversation with your child. We look forward to another successful year of learning in 2023.

Please note, one form only is to be completed per child and a separate form will need to be completed for each child in your family. We ask that this form is completed by no later than Friday 7th October. After this date, if the form has not been submitted, the classroom teacher will work with your child/ren to identify their 5 learning partners.
