RAP boys

Session 1

The boys in the RAP (Respect, Achievement and Pride) program had their first session where they learnt about respect, the importance of this key value and trusting each other. They took part in an activity where students were paired up with someone they hadn’t met before. They came up with a handshake and got to know them better. Each pair then took part in another activity where one person was blind folded and the other person had to guide them through an obstacle course. Not only did they enjoy this session, they were also able to reflect upon the importance of respecting and trusting others through these activities.

Session 2

In the second session of this term’s RAP program, the boys learnt the importance of respecting themselves by looking neat and tidy and dressing with pride. They learnt two key skills which were how to tie a tie and how to iron by taking part in these activities. The boys enjoyed this session and learnt valuable skills which they will be able to use in their everyday lives in the future. A big thank you to Mr El Hafiane for discussing the importance of these skills with the boys and also to Ms Rainey and Ms Bilgin for helping out with the session.

Session 3

In the third session of this term’s RAP program, the boys learnt about hygiene. They learnt the importance of daily routines and why they must be done to look after themselves and remain healthy. Nathan Waters from BACC also attended the session and spoke to the boys as well as providing them with hygiene bags containing goodies. The boys enjoyed this session and learnt valuable skills which they will be able to use in their everyday lives in the future.

Session 4 and 5

For the fourth and fifth session of this term’s RAP program, the boys took part in sessions around respecting women which was led by the Pamela Wachjo (Girl's advisor) and also learnt about an anti-violence campaign introduced by the NSW Police Force around making positive choices and the impacts of gangs, violence, etc. They found these sessions very informative and great discussions ensued during both sessions.

Session 6

In this session, the boys learnt how to cook burgers and the importance of cleaning up after themselves. As demonstrated by their beaming smiles and enthusiasm throughout this session, it is safe to say that this was most definitely their favorite session and a big thank you to Veena Rani (TAS and Hospitality Teacher) and Aida Boustani for running this session. Not only did they have fun, but they also learnt valuable skills to use in their everyday lives.
