Year Adviser News

Year 7 Year Adviser - Amyleigh Elliot

Year 7 has had yet another busy and exciting term of learning and activities at Evans which has been a continuation of the fun end to term 2. At the end of last term, Year 7 attended the Chau Chak Museum located at the University of Sydney where they all had the opportunity to explore the various exhibits and take a deep dive into ancient history with the museum's extensive range of Ancient Egyptian artefacts. This day was a highly enjoyable one with all students leaving with a wealth of knowledge about history that has assisted them in both their Visual Arts classes and History lessons.

This term, some students in Year 7 have represented the year group through participation in a range of programs including the Haka Warrior's, Solid Ground and Liven Deadly programs, these programs saw some of our Year 7 students assist in the grand opening of the new DHL Oceania site. The rest of the term is poised to be just as busy with a range of different activities for the students to get involved in across the school Mr Sondaar and I are very proud of the growth Year 7 have made over the last 3 terms and are looking forward to watching this continue as they finish Year 7 and move into Year 8 next term.

Year 8 Year Adviser - Allyssia Lloyd

This term, Year 8 students have been working towards achieving their goals set at the start of the year. Students selected an academic, personal and literacy or numeracy goal to work toward for self-improvement and are given time to evaluate their progress in Future Focused lessons.

Throughout the year there have been a significant number of students joining Evans High School moving from other schools and Evans IEC. Due to the increase in student numbers, there have been some class changes to best accommodate all of our students.

As Term 4 approaches and Year 9 is soon to begin, Ms Azzi and I would like to remind students about the importance of coming to school on time and being prepared for learning every day.

Year 9 Year Adviser - Gemma Hanlon

Year 9 have been working hard at getting their assessments completed this term. We had several students perform at refugee week concert last term and it was great to see all getting involved.

We have a lot to look forward to next term. During week 5, we will be participating in numerous activities as part of spirit week and it will be great to participate in these as a whole cohort.

Year 10 Year Adviser - Maati El Hafiane

Year 10 have had an extremely busy term with a number of programs running and excursions attended, along with the numerous assessment tasks due. I'm very proud of each and every student in this year group and their participation in all the great programs running at Evans High School. We have a number of students participating in our Haka Warriors program and wish them all the best in their upcoming competition. I'd also like to congratulate my Year 10 Commerce class on running 5 successful businesses during lunch as part of their assessment task. All money raised will be donated to a selected charity.

Time is flying in 2022 and Year 10 is almost entering the new Compressed Curriculum in Week 6 of Term 4. They will officially be seniors of Evans High School and begin HSC1. It has been great to chat with all the students about the subjects they have chosen and the career paths they are aiming for. I would like to remind all students and parents that we have an amazing Careers Adviser, Ms Newsome who can assist students with future pathways and to direct students in the right direction if they need a bit of assistance.

With Term 4 fast approaching, I would like to remind all students that Yearly examinations will be taking place in Week 3 of Term 4, and I would encourage all students to attend our Homework centre. It is extremely important that you get in a routine of consistent revision and seeking feedback from the teacher, to prepare you for your senior studies.

As always, Ms Wachjo and I are always here for you all and parents feel free to get in touch if you have any concerns.

Year 11 Year Adviser - Rhys Murphy

It is an exciting time for all Year 11 students as they move into the final year of their studies and I would like to personally congratulate each and every one of them for completing the Preliminary section of their Higher School Certificate.

Moving forward, I would like to remind parents and carers that it is important that students redeem all outstanding N award warnings, this will put them in the best possible position to experience success in 2023. The Homework Centre is available to assist students in completing this task. If students require new uniform for their final school year, the uniform shop is open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Can parents and carers please ensure that students are in black trousers and leather shoes. Also, non-uniform jumpers and hoodies are not permitted to be worn.

Finally, I would like to shout-out to our new group of school leaders for the year 2023! Misia, Cody, Aidan, Naznin, Shalah, Parasto and Jemma, we could not be prouder of you guys and I am confident that you will do an outstanding job representing the school as our Senior Leadership Team next year!

I am looking forward to a productive and memorable Term 4 and look forward to sharing all of the accomplishments of the class of 2023 with you all!

Year 12 Year Adviser - Melissa Silva

What a wonderful last term Year 12 have had. Year 12 have been working hard in learning the last bit of content for their subjects and preparing for the HSC Exams next term. They completed their Trial Examinations earlier in the term. Some art students have also had their music and dance practical examinations as well as the CAPA showcase, congratulations to these teachers and students on an amazing effort.

During the last week of this term, Year 12 SLR students will be going on a bowling excursion to celebrate completing the subject. It has been a lovely end of Term for Year 12 and we are looking forward to the Year 12 march out on Wednesday. On behalf of Evans High School, we would like to wish Year 12 Goodluck for their HSC Examinations and all the best for their future.
