Around the Classrooms

Foundation

Congratulations to all our Foundation Students for their calm transition back to school. We cannot believe we are already at Term 4! Here is a snapshot of our first week back.

Literacy

Students have started exploring our new content knowledge unit, ‘My Body, My Senses’. They brainstormed and wrote about how they use their sense of sight, smell, touch, hearing and taste. We read an engaging poem that described how our senses are so amazing. Next week we will dive further into the sense of sight!

Numeracy

We have started the term by exploring addition! Students are seeing how two parts can be added to make a whole. They have been using stories to develop their understanding of what addition is and display their working out on a tens frame. Students used a range of story scenarios including adding candles on a cake,  ducks in a pond, cars on a road and apples in baskets.

For example, ‘There were 3 ducks in the pond and 2 more came. That makes 5 ducks altogether’.

Congratulations to the students who received awards this week:

  • Oliver B
  • Isaiah
  • Tahli
  • James

Year 1 and 2

Indigenous Studies

This week, Foundation students used the Wadawurrung Language App to describe body parts! This links with their work in Literacy about the 5 senses. Students used songs to learn the new vocabulary and labelled a diagram using Wadawurrung Language words.  Some include:

  • Nose- Kang
  • Ear- Wirrng
  • Mouth- Wurru
  • Eye- Mirr

Year 1/2 students used the AIATSIS map to explore where their classmates had travelled over the school holidays. It represents the language, social or nation groups of Aboriginal Australia. Some had travelled within Wadawurrung Country to places such as Torquay, Lara and Ocean Grove. Others had travelled to Gunditjmara Country, Yorta Yorta Country and Wiradjuri Country. Students shared drawings and descriptions of these places with their peers. You can find the map using this link!

Year 3 and 4

3/4 YMCA Camp Wyuna!

The Year 3/4s had a fantastic few days down at Queenscliff on camp! We are sure you've heard ALL about it at home. Highlights included having some friends in our cabin, boogie boarding, archery, getting to know new friends, beach games and of course the food! The wet weather didn't dampen our fun either. A spontaneous trip to the Marine Discovery Centre was a highlight for many students too. Check out some photos below or head over to our Facebook page for more. A huge thank you to Mrs Clancy, Mr Irwin, Gen, Graeme and Miss Armstrong for organising the whole camp experience and looking after the students while away from home.

Year 6 Scholarship Recipients

Congratulations to Sienna and Ella who have been awarded scholarships from North Geelong Secondary College. Sienna received the scholarship for Sporting Excellence and Ella the Arts. The Scholarship program promotes and recognises outstanding commitment by primary school students who have displayed a strong involvement in their school community. Both students are very worthy recipients and were selected from dozens of applicants. We wish you all the very best as you embark on your secondary school journey. Well done girls!
