Spikeball

The game of Spikeball has become incredibly popular within the primary area of PVCC.

During Term 3, and the early weeks of Term 4, Year 5/6 students were introduced to this game as part of their focus on the striking skill within net games. Students have even borrowed Spikeball kits at lunchtimes, so they can continue playing, and refining their skills. Even younger students, who haven’t even been formally shown the game yet, have caught the bug by watching the older kids and are borrowing Spikeball kits as well.

Spikeball is a low equipment, highly inclusive, and energetic, game. The 2 v 2 game incorporates the methods of volleyball, performing a bump (dig), set and spike using one hand between teammates and then using a small, tight net to hit the ball towards the other team. Students have been borrowing Spikeball kits at lunchtimes, even students in Year 3 who have had no direct exposure to the game.

Visit Spikeball: The Basics - YouTube for a 40 second tutorial about this amazing game so you can have some idea of what the students have experienced.

Please visit the official website if you’re interested in a kit as a Christmas gift. This site also has simple video tutorials on how to play the game.

Congratulations

To Zoe H (Year 6) for achieving 3rd place at the recent Region athletics event. Zoe came 3rd, within the 12/13-year-old age group, in the discus with a throw of 18.79m – the event was held in blustery, and very wet, conditions, certainly not conducive to discus throwing.

Excellent effort against high quality athletes, Zoe.

And to Bailey C (Year 3) who recently played in the Division golf tournament for 9/10-year-olds. He accessed this sporting opportunity through School Sports Victoria School Sport Victoria – Home (ssv.vic.edu.au). Bailey has qualified for the next round to be held in November.

Great result, Bailey
