Wellbeing

From the counsellor

My name is Deb Shepherd and I am the school counsellor at PVCC. I am new to the school this year so an introduction for those who haven’t met me yet is well overdue. I am a registered counsellor and art therapist. I have worked in a state school for the past 7 years as a counsellor and I have also worked in a counselling center at a church where I have worked predominantly with adults.

I completed my Master’s in art therapy during COVID at LaTrobe University. During placements as part of my studies, I worked with survivors of sexual abuse as well as supporting those with long-term mental health issues. I have done a lot of extra study around trauma and especially developmental trauma as this is an area of personal interest to me.

My husband and I have 3 adult children. We are involved in a church in Mill Park and have also been involved in short-term overseas missions along the way. Outside of school hours, I have a side hustle upcycling furniture and doing art for people. I also enjoy riding my horse in my spare time. I look forward to getting to know you too and supporting your children at school where I can. I am including a link to a parenting article that I have found quite helpful – as we know, parenting can be quite challenging and we need all the help we can get, right?
