STRIVE: In Term 3 our students have been studying how to tell the time in Indonesian, how to write about their personal activities on both a daily and weekly basis, as well as learning about everyday classroom vocabulary. Students began working on their assessment task for Term 3 and had the pleasure of working with a pre-service teacher from Deakin University, Peyton who has been helping us with our language skills. Peyton has had the students up and moving to promote their learning (below left) which has been thoroughly enjoyed by the students.
UNITE: In year 8 Indonesian in term 3, we have been lucky enough to have had Ibu Fitria come into our classes to work with small groups on a regular basis. Fitria joins us via Google Meets from West Sumatra and works with the students to develop their communication skills in Indonesian. She has been able to encourage students to use their language skills in real life situations and feel the excitement of having their hard work pay off (above, right).
Year 8 students have been working hard on creating their own school in Indonesia. They have created a formal and sport uniform, a logo, mascot, a school pledge, school name, a written reflection, a classroom design labeling the key rooms/areas of their school and written about their subject likes and dislikes in Indonesian (The hard work below comes from Taitum Marsh from 8E).
FLOURISH: A large number of our year 9s took advantage of power hour during CAT week end of term. Students are supported from 3pm - 4pm each Wednesday afternoon by their classroom teachers to assist them in bumping up, catching up or extending their work.
STRIVE: Congratulations to - Ruby C, Steve G, Paige E, Hazel K, Patrick F, Georgia C, Kingston C and Arden B who were selected to represent the school at the Surf Coast Shire Youth Art event on the last day of term 3.
Surf Coast Youth are running an Event at The Light Box in Torquay on Friday 16 September from 5pm-8pm. This event was designed to showcase a range of art works from young people living or studying in the Surf Coast Shire (aged 12-25) who have a passion for art and may be considering a career in the arts after school. The work was very well received and reflected yet again the amazing diversity of skills and interests across the arts at Surf Coast Secondary.
A big thankyou to Holly D who provided visitors to the exhibition the opportunity to hear her fabulous voice, guitar and original music.
STRIVE: Holly L. in Year 9 created this drawing of the I CAN peers. I CAN has been running for 9 weeks developing students’ leadership, self-esteem and confidence. Here is the original photo for comparison.
STRIVE: A massive congratulations to Jenna S. (Year 12) and Evie S. (Year 9) who both participated at the FISAF National Aerobic Championships in Brisbane at the end of term 3.
Jenna:
Evie:
Both sisters have qualified for the World Championships in October. Whilst Evie will be travelling to the Czech Republic to compete, Jenna has made the decision to give up her spot to complete her VCE exams (a touch decision I’m sure for an athlete at the top of her game!)
Please join in congratulating these amazing young athletes!
FLOURISH: Congratulations to our students who competed in last term’s Western Metro Athletics Championships. We had some wonderful results, with Sienna M winning gold for the 100m Sprint, Hunter M winning bronze in hurdles, Geordie P winning silver in 800m, Bella B winning bronze in javelin and our girls relay team also took home bronze.
Massive congratulations again to all involved!
RESPECT: We were fortunate to have the Minister for Education visit our College this week. We proudly showed her a snapshot of the great programs and facilities in our school.
