Dear Parents and Caregivers, Konnichiwa!

Authentic learning

One of the critical skills we can instill in our students is that they can make a difference. An example of this in action is from the students in Rooms 12 and 13. Ava and Naomi showed me what they and some of their classmates were discovering in the school yard and their plans of action to improve this. I asked that they record this so that I could share it with you in the newsletter. Powerful, proactive learning indeed, where we are enabling students to believe they can and do make a difference. Well done, future leaders of our country.

The Litter Monitors

There are some litter monitors from Rooms 12 and 13 that collect 10 cent recyclable cartons, as well as rubbish. When we were on the oval playing ball-rush Naomi and Ava found some disappointing things. We don’t know how this rubbish got on the oval because students are not allowed to eat on the oval, but some kids are not following this rule. The things we found are, a plastic reusable container, a wrapper and a 10 cent recyclable carton. We know the name of the person who littered the recyclable carton and told their teacher about what they did. All of the litter monitors in Rooms 12 and 13 have seen full drink cartons in the bin and if the carton had a name tag, we would tell their teachers. To finish off we just want to acknowledge Room 12 and 13’s litter monitors for their phenomenal work!
