Ongoing partnership

Endeavour College has developed a partnership with three connected schools in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Each year, students in Year 10 and 11 have the opportunity to travel there to visit these schools and spend time working with students whilst experiencing the local culture. Other Lutheran schools in Australia have also made similar partnerships as an initiative from LCA International Missions and the Lutheran World Federation in Indonesia.

Last year was our inaugural trip and we were generously taken care of by Mr Ridwin Purba, the Indonesian Lutheran Education Secretary for the LWF National Committee. Last week we were blessed to be visited by Ridwin and his wife Rita as a part of their visit to Australia. It was wonderful for staff and students to reconnect with them and be able to show them our school and a few treasures of South Australia.

Family Zone Ingle Farm

Breakfast Program

As a Christian community, serving others is a vital expression of who we are, for some years now, Endeavour College has been involved with Lutheran Community Care’s Family Zone Breakfast Program. This runs four days a week at Ingle Farm Primary School. Up to 150 children are fed breakfast on each of those days.

Early on the morning of Thursday 23 May, five students from MacKillop Village – Chinmay Kumar, Naomi Corbet, Uthmi Weerasinghe, Hope Hill and Molly Johnson - accompanied by two MacKillop staff, visited the school to support this program. We also took with us a box of non-perishable goods that could be used by Family Zone. When we arrived at 7.30am, our main task was to assist in the preparation of food. This included making toasted sandwiches, buttering toast, cutting oranges and preparing hot Milo. When this was done, we distributed the food and drink to students as they arrived from about 8.20am.

We were very pleased to be able to strengthen our school’s connection with the Family Zone Breakfast Program. This proved to be a wonderful service opportunity and allowed us to learn more about, and connect with, our wider community.

Family Zone Work

Two teams of Year 9 students also visited Ingle Farm Primary School to assist Lutheran Community Care, Family Zone, in their work with special needs children. Our students use their skills learnt in food technology to work with the primary school students to prepare and cook a variety of foods. Each team attends once a fortnight on an alternating roster. We are very proud of our students and the way they interact positively with the younger students, who keenly anticipate each visit.
