NGV- Alexander McQueen exhibition

The VCE students from Product Design and Technology (Textiles) were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The students made their own way to and from the venue and spent time viewing the magnificent works produced by this British fashion icon. They have been inspired by his incredible works and will use this inspiration within their own folios and designs.

It was a great excursion and I thank Mrs O’Brien for joining my class on the day. It was certainly worth the visit.

On the 23 March, we visited the Alexander McQueen exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. We viewed a wide range of beautiful and complex designs from which we could gather inspiration for our own folios and dresses. The entire theme and atmosphere of each room was also stunning, with many lights and paintings. McQueen’s work is just incredible, in addition to being innovative and imaginative. Overall, I was inspired by his creations, and I had a really great experience at the gallery.

Top Arts Excursion

Nazareth students studying Art Making and Exhibiting had the privilege of attending the 2023 Top Arts Exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria. The students gained insight into the curatorial role and responsibilities for the exhibition. These included the process of selecting artworks, linking of artworks via specific themes, various presentation and display methods used throughout the show and the information offered to the general public via informative didactic boxes. The students then had access to view the Visual Arts Journals of the exhibiting students in the exhibition. This was a huge inspiration for our students. They could see the annotated records of the entire creative process from inspiring artists and artworks, trials and experiments of materials and making techniques, through to the refinement and creation of final artworks. The students viewed the Top Arts exhibition in the Ian Potter Centre, assisting them in their research and planning for their own exhibition proposal for Unit 3 Art Making and Exhibiting.

Esports

Esports has kicked off at Nazareth and it has proven to be super (Mario) fun! The group was started by the fabulous Joshua Smith and Blayke Hudson’Ruiz who have shown such leadership and demonstrated their spirit of fun and competition. Lunchtime groups are such a great way for students to develop a sense of belonging and being part of a group of peers with similar interests! Students are encouraged to submit their lunchtime group ideas.

Esports runs at lunchtimes on Thursday and all are welcome to join in.

A New Face in Term 2

Dear Nazareth College Community

Thank you very much for offering me this space in your newsletter to introduce myself before we can finally meet in person! My name is Silvia Formaro, I am 26 years old and I will be your Italian Language Assistant starting next term. I was born and raised in Rome but I have roots in Southern Italy (my parents were both born in Apulia, a region known for its beautiful beaches and amazing food). For as long as I can remember, I have always been fascinated by languages and cultures different from mine. During my high school years, I developed a deep interest in Asian cultures, especially Chinese and Japanese, which in 2022 led me to graduate in Oriental Languages and Cultures at La Sapienza University of Rome. In addition to languages, I have an unconditional love for animals and I am passionate about singing as well as cooking and baking, two hobbies that were passed on to me by my mother (I am nowhere near as good as her, but I try my best!) Now that you know me a little better, we just have to wait for the new term to start. I look forward to helping you learn more about the Italian language and lifestyle; I hope you will help me learn more about Australian culture too. Until then, I wish you all a blessed and holy Easter!

Best regards

Ms Silvia Formaro
