Principal's Report

School Fair Preparations

I’m sure that you don’t need reminding that our school fair is less than two weeks away! The tubs in the office area are starting to fill with donations and I have regularly bumped into volunteers around the grounds who are carrying boxes, checking the site plan, or assisting with the communication and coordination of the event.

I encourage you to read the latest  fair newsletter (sent via Compass) to find out what is happening, how to purchase wristbands, and how to volunteer. It is sure to be ‘A Fair to Remember’.

See you at the Fair!

NAPLAN

All schools have been administering NAPLAN to their Year 3, 5, 7 and 9 students over the last fortnight. NAPLAN isn’t something that we focus on too much at FPS — it is simply another opportunity for the students to show what they have learned.

Well done to all of our Year 3 and 5 students for how well they managed themselves whilst completing these online tests. We were grateful to have had the opportunity to conduct practice tests a couple of weeks earlier, where we could iron out all of the technical glitches. Thank you to all of the teachers who supported the students, particularly with the technical side, during the last fortnight.

Working Bee Thanks

Thank you to the hardy band of volunteers who assisted at Sunday’s working bee. Mulch, mulch and a bit more mulch was the order of the day. We had a significant delivery of mulch that needed spreading around the grounds, and this was only possible by having so many people to do the task. A special mention to our Buildings and Grounds Committee for their ongoing coordination of the working bees.

Excursions

Next week sees our first excursion of the year with Year 3 heading off to Melbourne Zoo. It is worth noting that we have seen an increase in prices for the hire of coaches for excursions and sporting events. You might therefore notice an increase in the charge for your child to attend excursions this year as a result of the increase in coach fees.

School Council 2023

Next Monday we will hold our first School Council with our newly elected members. One of the orders of business for the  councillors will be to nominate which of the sub-committees they will join. In the next newsletter these roles will be  communicated as well as an acknowledgement of the work of our outgoing councillors.
