International Woman’s Day

On Wednesday, March 8th the world celebrated International Women’s Day. The theme this year is ‘Embrace Equity’.

Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women's equality.

Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity.

At CHPS we are very lucky to have an incredible team of amazing women supporting our students through their learning and lives. To our teachers, support staff and admin, and to the wonderful mothers, step-mothers, carers, grandmothers, aunts and every woman who makes an impact on a CHPS student's life, we thank you.

Mindfulness

As we reach the second half of Semester 1, I thought it would be beneficial to discuss the practice of mindfulness and how it can help our students get the most out of their schooling experience.  Mindfulness is the practice of being aware of your feelings, body and mind in the present moment to create a feeling of calm.

Some of the benefits of mindfulness in children include:

  • Improved attention, memory and decision making
  • Increased self-awareness, social awareness and self-confidence
  • Increased ability to regulate emotions
  • Improved empathy and ability to understand what other people are thinking and feeling
  • Reduce feelings of anxiety
  • Building important skills to cope with stress

How can we practice mindfulness?

There are many ways to practice mindfulness that you may already be doing! These include getting creative, embracing the mood boosting power of music and giving a hug to loved ones.

One other effective technique you can do now is to identify your surroundings using all 5 senses. Identify 3 things you can hear, see, feel, smell and taste. This helps to ground you in the present moment.

Mindfulness works best when practised regularly!  To find out more visit https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/10-mindfulness-exercises-kids https://www.mindful.org/mindfulness-for-kids/
