INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
International Women's Day
Breakfast
We celebrated International Women's Day with breakfast at our very own Tradewynds Cafe. The guest speakers, Zoia from the Blue Peony Foundation and Rose, a former student, were role models and guest speakers for International Women’s Day. Both women were able to captivate us with their stories; inspire us to do more for others; and showed us that, as individuals, we can make a difference. It felt a particularly special to have heard Rose, as a returning student, speak so highly of education and most importantly of Wyndham College.
Thank you to all that attended and to those who made donations to the Blue Peony Foundation.

International Women's Day, celebrated on 8 March, is a global day that highlights the achievements of women and the ongoing struggle for gender equality. This day is a reminder of the progress made, as well as the obstacles that still need to be overcome.
International Women's Day has its roots in the labour movement of the early 20th century. In 1908, women garment workers in New York City marched to demand better working conditions and the right to vote. In 1910, the Socialist International declared 8 March as International Women's Day, and it has been celebrated worldwide ever since.
The importance of International Women's Day cannot be overstated. This day is an opportunity to reflect on the ongoing struggle for gender equality and to recognize the contributions of women to society. It is a day to celebrate women's achievements in all areas of life, including politics, business, science, and the arts.
However, it is also important to recognize the challenges that women still face. Despite progress in recent years, women continue to face discrimination and gender-based violence. Women are underrepresented in leadership positions, are paid less than men for the same work, and face barriers to education and healthcare.
International Women's Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of these issues and to advocate for change. It is a call to action for individuals and organisations to work towards gender equality. This can involve supporting women's rights organisations, advocating for policies that promote gender equality, and empowering women in all aspects of life.
International Women's Day is also an opportunity to recognize the intersectionality of women's experiences. Women from different backgrounds and identities face different challenges and obstacles. It is important to acknowledge and address these differences. This includes recognising the experiences of women of colour, indigenous women, LGBTQI+ women, women with disabilities, and women living in poverty. By raising awareness and advocating for change, we can create a world where all women can thrive and reach their full potential.
