Harmony Week


Girton will celebrate Harmony Week during Week 8 (20th- 24th March). To celebrate our diverse community, the Girton Community Action Group (GCAG) will host a number of different activities throughout the week to recognise and appreciate the vibrant and diverse cultures of Australia.

 

To ensure a respectful celebration and encourage cultural sensitivity, a speech outlining the difference between cultural appropriation and appreciation will be shared at Wednesday’s Religious Assembly in Week 7.

 

Harmony Week will kick off with a special Assembly on the Monday of Week 8 which will include a Cultural Dress Parade, a speech and dance performance from Madame Ryan and students, and a short video on the theme “We All Belong”. The Cultural Dress Parade is open to all members of the Senior School.

All participants will be contacted with further details after that time. Please ensure that you are logged into your Girton Google account to access the form.

 

On the Tuesday of Week 8, a number of activities will be run in the PA courtyard at lunchtime:

  • an assortment of desserts will be available for sampling, such as fantales, matcha crepe cake, galab jamun, mafatcook, lamingtons, fairy bread, and caramel slices, as well as orange cupcakes, to celebrate culture through food. 
  • The enjoyment of these foods will only be enhanced as cultural music is to be played and students are invited to play a game of Musical Bingo with prizes available for the winners!

Throughout Week 8, a photo competition will be open with the theme “Everyone Belongs”. You can submit any original photograph that represents the theme and shows inclusivity. The prize for the winning photograph will be a canteen voucher. This will be announced at Assembly in Week 9.
