Harmony Day Celebration

Harmony Day is on Tuesday 21 March (in Week 8), part of the national Harmony Week (Monday 20 to Sunday 26 March). Due to this date being one of our school photo days, our school will celebrate Harmony Day next Wednesday, 22 March

The message of Harmony Day is that ‘everyone belongs’ and focuses on inclusivity and diversity in Australia, and being accepting of all people. It flows on from Cultural Diversity Week, which is currently being celebrated in Victoria (see more information below).

The whole focus is on encouraging people to learn about different cultures and understand how important diversity and harmony is in the world. Orange is the official colour representing Harmony Day. At EHPS, we have an amazing array of families from many cultural backgrounds and it is important that we continue to celebrate this.

Harmony Day at EHPS this year:

  • All students and teachers are invited to dress up in cultural dress that represents their family, or they can wear orange (this can be as simple as a coloured ribbon in their hair, hair spray or a traditional costume).
  • Families may like to pack some food in lunch boxes that is reflective of their cultural background. This will provide a great source of discussion about food around the world!
  • The EHPS staff will enjoy an International Pot Luck Morning Tea, where staff will bring and share dishes and recipes from their own family backgrounds.
  • A whole school collaborative display is on the Library windows. This year we have created paper people to represent each member of the school community (staff and students).

We look forward to celebrating Harmony Day as a school community and continuing to provide opportunities to celebrate and learn about all the different cultures around the world.

Kind regards,

Shona Misso

Cultural Diversity Week

Each year in March, Cultural Diversity Week brings together Victorians of all ages, cultural backgrounds and experiences to celebrate our state’s diverse and powerful multicultural communities.

This year Cultural Diversity Week is running from Saturday 11 to Tuesday 21 March.

The theme, ‘Our Past, Our Future: Celebrating and reflecting on the contributions of Victoria's multicultural communities’, is an opportunity to engage with Victoria’s multicultural history and celebrate its bright future.
