Curriculum

Year 12:

Year 12 students have made it to the end of term 1, meaning almost a third of the school year has now passed, and what a busy one it has been!

Earlier in the term, year 12 students attended a 3-day camp at Gundiwindi Lodge where they focused on interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communication, collaboration, problem solving and taking responsibility. Students were actively engaged in outdoor challenges to expand their skillset as they were exposed to activities such as damper making, flying fox, giant swing, archery, low ropes course and team building. On the second night, students had the opportunity to get up close and personal with an array of wildlife, such as spiders, snakes, lizards, possums and an owl with most choosing to hold or touch the animals whilst learning about how they live and their habitats. The entire experience was received very well with students kicking off the year to a great start!

Most students have been working hard throughout the term to complete learning tasks and assessments related to their VCAL Intermediate or VCE VM certificate, which includes Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills, Personal Development Skills, Structured Workplace Learning (SWL) and their VET course. We ask that this dedication be carried into the upcoming terms to ensure a positive learning experience as well as taking steps closer to their end of year Graduation celebrations.

The entire school is right behind you all and looking to support you through to the very end, so keep attending, keep trying, keep asking questions and keep doing your best. You all got this!!

Year 11:

The year 11’s have had a successful start to their senior studies in 2023. They have been able to work diligently to complete their studies throughout the term and ensure Peter Lalor Secondary College has been a safe and happy environment for every individual. We had the pleasure of attending two separate excursions during the term which students were engaged and took part in with enthusiasm.

The first excursion was a careers expo, where students were able to navigate through different career options and stalls to discover where their passion may lie in the future and put the necessary steps in place to ensure they can achieve their goals.

The second excursion was at the Melbourne Museum, where students took part in several workshops surrounding road safety.  Students were also given the opportunity to develop an add campaign in small groups, which focused on pedestrian and cyclist safety within Victoria.

We look forward to a successful term 2

Year 10:

Year 10 students have been exploring fundamental life skills in regards to completing their Barista course and engaging in an exposure to cooking program with our resident Chef Russell Jones who also facilitates the VET Cookery course. This program is set to become a regular learning experience for Year 10 students next term, so watch this space as I’m sure your child will be bringing their skills home with them and would be happy to show off their new skills in the kitchen. They absolutely did for the Harmony Day celebrations as they prepared a variety of multicultural foods for all staff and students to sample, appreciate and we were definitely left wanting more!
