Wellbeing News

What a great start to the year we have had this term.  It has been very exciting to welcome all students back to the Peter Lalor Secondary College community and to get back into the routine of school.  We have been very excited to plan some exciting events for the year ahead and ensure that all students are supported to undertake their learning.

Both Olivia (Wellbeing Officer) & Rhiannon (Mental Health Practitioner), have been working hard to plan some events for the year ahead and will be very excited to also work alongside our newly elected student Wellbeing Ambassadors to provide some more activities and supports for students to engage in across all year levels.

One event held this year so far has been the Harmony Day celebrations which focused on the theme of “Everybody Belongs”.  Students and staff celebrated the many nationalities and diversity here at PLSC with a lovely lunch incorporating some of these cultures.  A big thanks to the Russell Jones and Lissa Mcqueen for preparing and cooking for us all and also a thankyou to the many students who volunteered to help out during the day to ensure it ran smoothly.

Coming up in the next term we will be celebrating the following topics:

  • World Health day with focus on self-care;
  • IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia);
  • Respectful relationships.

As we head toward the school holidays, we would like to encourage all students to relax, refresh and to continue a focus on their mental and physical health and well-being. Maintaining good routines throughout the holidays will help to transition back into the next term.

Here's some tips from Headspace for some activities to try over the school holidays:

Find a casual jobEarn extra pocket money, gain skills and meet new people

Organise and exploreList places you want to visit and things you want to do. Take up a photography course, or find another course that interests you.

Creative projectsGet your creative juices flowing! Revamp your bedroom or create an art piece. Invite a friend over or ask a parent to help.

Get activeGet out on the oval and kick a footy with mates, check out the local skate park or go for walks.

VolunteerGive back to the community and gain some great experience

Remember to also look out for your friends and loved ones and check in to see how they are doing. If you are worried about them, let them know that you are there to help.

For students who are looking for some things to do or try during their school break, we have attached some information of events and activities being offered within the Whittlesea, Hume, Banyule and Darebin areas.

Thanks everyone for a great start to 2023, we look forward to welcoming you back to PLSC and our new space in Term 2!!
