Author Visit – Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor

On Friday 12 May, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting St Mary’s Primary School to run workshops with our K-6 students. Kindergarten students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading and follow-along drawing activity with Cameron. Year 1-6 students will be taking a behind-the-scenes look at creating a book, and applying their own creative components. A small group of Year 3-6 students will also be participating in a hands-on imaginative illustration workshop exploring drawing and illustration techniques. Students and teachers are looking forward to a great day!

In conjunction with the Author Visit, St Mary’s families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $10-$15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form prior to the day of the workshops. Forms can be returned to the Office before, or on the morning of the visit, Friday 12 May (payment is via the online payment portal listed on the form; no cash).

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE

Remember to keep logging into the website and record the books you have read. The link to the website is included HERE.

Many of the Premiers Reading Challenge books are on SORA. If you look in collections you will see collections devoted to each section of the challenge.

Friday 18 August 2023 is the challenge closing date for student entries.

Getting started with Sora

With Sora, you can get free ebooks and audiobooks from your school.

Install the Sora app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, or go to soraapp.com.

In Sora, click on I have a setup code, then sign in.

Note: If you need your sign-in information (like an ID, username, or password), it is the same one you use to log into your chromebook.

Sign into your School – Select your school - ACEN

Step 3______________________________________________________

Browse the

tab and borrow a book. Your book will open so you can start reading right away.

Step 4______________________________________________________

Close the book and go to

see all your books (including assignments). From there, you can:

Select Open book or Open audiobook to read or listen to the book.
Select Options to renew or return the book, see your notes and highlights, and more.

Premiers Reading Challenge Books can be found in Collections in folders marked NSW Premiers Reading Challenge K-2, NSW Premiers Reading Challenge 3-4, NSW Premiers Reading Challenge 5-6.
