Physical Education

Lower School

Children are learning and developing their Basic Fundamental Motor Skills (FMS) in Prep-Grade 2 this term.  Practising basic skills such as running, jumping, leaping, hopping, skipping, balancing, etc.  These are important skills which are needed for a fit and healthy lifestyle as well as being the core skills needed for all major sports which are needed in the older years of school.  Through small games and activities children have also been learning important social skills such as how to cooperate, share equipment, to be responsible with it, take turns and show resiliance by having a go at everything on offer.

Prep Physical Education

Prep Physical Education we are learning about ways we move our body. Students have been taking part in round robins of obstacles for the past 9 weeks. Movements include running, jogging, hopping, skipping, leaping and types of balancing, modifying each obstacle once they have achieved the motor skills with ease. Students have been all smiles taking part in these activities with listening to their favourite music to keep them engaged and energetic. Within Prep physical education we use the explicit teaching model for teaching “I do, We do, You do” for high impact teaching and correct understanding of content.

Upper School

Children in Year 3-6 students are learning about and developing their skills in Striking and Fielding games this term.  Looking at the core skills of Throwing and Cathching, Hitting and Bowling/Pitching as well as key concepts of a Batting team - to score as many runs as possible and of a Fielding team - to stop the opposition scoring runs.  We have been doing this through modified games of Cricket, T-ball, Softball as well as Indigenous games like Arrkene Irreme and Noongar Wana which have similar concepts.  Key social skills of cooperation, communication, team work, resiliance are all part of these games.

Swimming Program

The swimming program is well underway and students are learning and building on important skills which will develop their ability to swim safely.

It is compulsory for all children to take part in a swimming program in Australia and as a school we support this important Lifesaving activity.

The Royal Life Saving Summer Drowning Report 2022/23 recorded that 90 people lost their lives in Australian Waterways, Beaches and Swimming pools between 1 December 2022 and 28 February 2023.  Which supports the need for all children to take part in swimming lessons in school.

Please make sure your child is ready to swim on the following days:

24th March

27th March

29th March

30th March

3rd April - Water Safety session - ALL CHILDREN WILL NEED A T-SHIRT AND SHORTS TO GO IN THE POOL ON THIS DAY.

The Swimming Carnival will take place on 31st March and will involve all children in Years 3-6.  This is a fun event which is for everyone to take part in no matter what your ability - everyone who takes part will get a ribbon and gain points for their House.
