Principal's Message

Nurture.  Innovate.  Celebrate.

Dear Students, Parents, Carers and Families

READING AT MARAMBA

Phonics

Reading starts with phonics and we use a synthetic phonics program called Little Learners Love Literacy to teach reading.  This method teaches the children the 44 phonemes (sounds) in the English language, linking letters or groups of letters with words.

Decodable Texts

It is vital that whilst children are learning to read, they read books called decodable texts that match their phonic knowledge. This year we are extremely excited to be able to send decodable readers home each week.

Children keep the decodable book for the whole week and re-read them at least four times to develop their phonic knowledge and reading fluency.

The following links will show you how you can support your child to read a decodable book:

Rich Texts to Share

All students also have access to sharing books. These may not yet be decodable but are there to read with an adult to instil a love of reading. These books can be read together with your child reading the words they are able to decode or you read the book to them.  Spending 10 minutes a day reading with an adult will hugely support the children in their journey to becoming  independent readers.

Friends of Maramba

We want to send a special thanks to our Friends of Maramba who have covered, stamped and strengthened our new take home readers so that they will be able to be used by our current students as well as those in years to come. We cannot thank you enough!

In next week’s newsletter we will have some information regarding Reading in Years 3-6.

Take care and stay safe!

Kind regards,
