Vision and Values

Every day matters

Our Vision, Values and House Culture - a students perspective

As Homestead grows and develops into the reputable school we know it to be; the Homestead leadership team alongside the students have been working together to create school values that we wish to set forth into our community. These four values encompass our school values alongside academics and community. They represent what is important in our society to become the successful individual Homestead is shaping us to be. These four values are; Curiosity, Innovation, Purpose and Resilience.

Our Vision:

At Homestead, we create an environment for young adult learners, with pathway-focused goals, that inspires resilient, community-minded individuals. Our students engage with academic and real-world learning experiences that foster imagination and motivation, and enable success in line with personal ambitions.

Our Values:

The college has developed a house culture system.

Each House represents one of our values.

Students and staff are expected to exhibit all values every day.

Bunjil

Bunji, our rich coloured purple house, symbolises purpose. Each individual; whether student or teacher, comes to Homestead each day with their own personal purpose and motivation. We come to better our education, and to take advantage of the opportunities given to us each and everyday. As students, we are approaching our final years of school and reach the crucial moment in our lives where each decision we make matters.

Gillard

Gillard, the vivid red, mimics our school value of resilience. Each choice we make can have a positive or negative outcome but regardless, we must remember to stay resilient and persevere to ensure an outcome that makes us proud. Resilience is vital in allowing us to grow into the successful adults we all hope to be. In addition to resilience and purpose, curiosity and innovation are essential in striving for excellence.

Harcourt

Harcourt, the house of bright blue, represents Homestead’s innovation within the corridors of our cohort. Every student within Homestead strives for academic greatness, to achieve the best they possible can. Homestead teachers introduce and initiate applicable techniques and attributes to allow Homestead students to bring themselves forward, and create a new best self personally and academically. We are not limited to what we can create. The students control their direction and their pathway to allow themselves to innovate greatness.

Darwin

The school house of bright green, Darwin represents the value of Curiosity. Curiosity is an important aspect of education that all students exhibit, whether in another school house, VCE or VCAL. Everyday students are pushed to think beyond, not to remain mediocre and bored. Instead we are encouraged by our teachers to bring out our greatest, putting our best foot forward. Not limited to only academics, but our art, skills and passions, things that bring us towards our future pathways.

Homestead is about trying new things and refining ourselves to be able to leave Senior Secondary School ready.

Our Motto:

During the foundation years and navigating through the pandemic the college leadership team used the Motto "Every Day Matters" as a way of motivating students to do our very best, every day. This has clearly resonated with both students and teachers as it was the outright most popular motto by all.

Every day matters is particularly pertinent to Homestead as we only have three years from entry until we graduate and enter the next phase of our life. Every day matters also has a double meaning, it refers to not only the time we have but also the habits we must have "Everyday"  to be successful. The college has promoted organisation, study skills, review and reflect, helping others and other vital skills to help us succeed.

Our next challenge is now to ensure we live the vision, the values and our motto everyday!
