2022 Co-curricular Music Rehearsals (Morris)
Several of our ensembles commenced rehearsals this week. These include:
- All marimba ensembles
- Year 2 Strings
- Year 3 Strings
- Morris Band, but with Year 6s only
- Morris Chamber Ensemble, but with Year 6s only.
The following groups will meet or rehearse next week but only for the year groups specified:
- Morris Majors - Year 4s only next week and Year 3s only the week after
- Morris Maestros - Year 6s only next week and Year 5s only the week after
- Guitar Ensemble - Year 6s only next week and Year 5s only the week after
- Theory Group - Year 6s only next week and Year 5s only the week after
The Morris String Ensemble and Morris Combined Chamber Group will commence rehearsals at a later date.

Year 5 Band
On Monday 21 February, Year 5 students have the opportunity to be introduced to the instruments available in this year’s Year 5 Band programme. Students wishing to see the instruments on offer are welcome to attend the introductory session in The Farrall Centre from 3pm to 4pm. Students not wishing to attend will finish school as usual at 3.15pm.
Participating students can be collected from the driveway between the Frank Wells Hall and Friends' Early Learning at 4pm. Information has been sent home to families about this. For further information, please contact Hilary Morgan.
Mobile Phones and other Personal Computing Devices
Many students own mobile phone and internet devices and may have a legitimate reason to have these at school. However, we require them to be turned off and in their bags until the end of the school day. During school hours, mobile phones and internet devices may only be used under direct supervision from a teacher unless it is at the end of the school day when children have left the School. These guidelines include the use of a mobile phone device, including watches, in any capacity including text messaging, taking and sharing of photographs or music, gaming, or for sending emails or accessing the internet.
Students need to be aware that if they are using phones, including watches, at school, teachers have the right to check for inappropriate use. Students who use their mobile phone devices, including watches, in school hours without permission or inappropriately will have them held at the Morris Office for retrieval by parents. The School will not accept responsibility for the misuse, loss or theft of mobile phone devices and watches.
Fitness Watches
Many students have fitness watches and use these as a part of their daily lives. Students are asked to have their notifications disabled during the school day to avoid distraction from teaching and learning. The School will not accept responsibility for the misuse, loss or theft of personal items.
Classroom Information Sessions
These sessions will continue to be held via Zoom next week. The purpose of these sessions is for classroom teachers to introduce themselves, give a brief overview of the big conceptual ideas for the year, and open up lines of communication. Zoom links have been provided to families.
The times for the Zoom meetings are:
Kindergarten: 4.00pm Tuesday 22 February
Prep: 4.30pm Tuesday 22 February
Year 1: 4.00pm Thursday 24 February
Year 2: 4.30pm Thursday 24 February
Absentees
If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Morris Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: morrisadmin@friends.tas.edu.au) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
