Principal's Message

Welcome
Dear Mater Dei Family,
“Welcome Back” to the new school year. I hope you enjoyed the blessings of the Christmas Season and the New Year brought with it some time for rest.
The beginning of a new school year presents opportunities for all of us. For us, the Newsletter has resulted in a new, more engaging format. Although our first edition of Mater Dei Matters for 2014 is a brief version, it does give you feel of things to come.
2014 marks our 10 years as a College and although in comparison to many other schools we are very young, we continue to vigorously pursue our Vision Statement which reads as follows….
In keeping with the Vision Statement of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga, Mater Dei Catholic College strives to be a nurturing community which:
- is founded in Catholic faith, justice and love
- is inclusive
- is learner centred
- seeks excellence and wisdom
Our Vision Statement is as real and relevant as it was 10 years ago when Foundation Staff and inaugural students first set foot on a very new, yet raw site. Since then, the dust has settled and the trees have grown. However, more importantly we have emerged as a community held in high regard within Wagga and the wider Riverina. One group of people who can take great credit for the great advances we have made as a learning community include those Foundation staff members. On Tuesday when staff gathered we acknowledged those teachers and support staff (and took the photograph below) who have nurtured the development of the College since Day One.
We started the new year with 149 Year 7 students joining us (our biggest intake in the 10 years of the College), and another 25 new students joining us across years 8 to 12 , I look forward to their enthusiasm complementing the talent and energy possessed by their peers.
This year we celebrate 10 years and we have the most number of students to start a school year. 755 students are enrolled for the start of the 2014 school year. There are waiting lists in Year 7 & Year 8 and there are many classes in Years 9, 10 and 11 which are full. For more information about out student enrolment please go to... http://bit.ly/1gvC1nw
Finally, I conclude my first article for the year with a Prayer.
Dear Lord Jesus,
We ask for Your help as we begin this new school year.
Allow us to experience Your presence in the many blessings You put before us.
Open our eyes to the new challenges and exciting opportunities that this new school year brings.
Open our heart and mind to new friends and new teachers.
Give us a generous spirit to be enthusiastic with our studies and the courage to accept new opportunities.
Help us to be attentive to one another and let us experience Your presence in our new friends.
Inspire us to do our best this year!
Amen
Best Wishes for 2014.
