‘This term we’ve been focusing on the topic number and place value in year 7 and year 8. This includes directed numbers, place value, index laws and BIDMAS. We’ve all been working really hard to improve on our post-test to achieve a high learning growth. To help do that we split into three groups where we can all learn at our own levels. Every second Friday, we participate in rich tasks. These are fun, maths-based activities. For example, recently the year 7’s used their knowledge on construction to try and build the biggest possible newspaper tower. Every other Friday we attempt problem solvers; problem solvers are worded maths problems, designed to test our thinking and logic as well as help us practice solving worded problems in general. Overall, this has been a productive unit and everyone has learnt a lot’.
