Physical Vibe

Welcome back to 2022. It has been awesome listening to all the adventures the students had over the holidays and to see them giving their all in weekly Physical Vibe lessons.

For our first few Physical Vibe lessons we focused on being positive and giving everything a go. We have completed different physical activities that required lots of teamwork!

We have learnt about the Winter Olympics and the values the athletes uphold. They are similar to our own school values. We even turned the multipurpose room into snowfields and ice rinks to complete modified games of Curling, Luge/Skeleton, Ski Jump, Slalom Skiing & Ice Hockey.

For the remainder of term the Sub school focuses are:

Junior School - Improving our locomotor skills of running, skipping, balancing, hopping and galloping through fun mini activities and games.

Middle School - Perform sequences of fundamental movement skills and ball control skills in game play.

Senior School - Perform multiple movement sequences with a focus on object control and target games and ways we can increase our fitness (endurance agility, strength, balance)

Term 1 Events

House Cross Country (Whole School) - Friday 25th March.

More detailed information will be posted on Compass in coming weeks.

In order for these events to run smoothly we need Volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at a school event keep an eye out for relevant event links to register your interest. Please note that you must have a current working with children check and be vaccinated to help at any school event.

Looking forward to a year of active fun!

Visual Arts

We have made a wonderful start to the Art program. It's already been fantastic to see all of the artwork students produce individually and as a team.

As part of 'Setting the Climate' in the Art studio, every sub school did a different Teambuilding activity that embraced our Cooperative Learning culture.

In the Art program we will be bringing it back to basics and working through the Elements of Art, by exploring different skills and techniques. We will apply those skills to create unique artwork.

Students enjoyed experimenting with oil pastels to make marks. Even the Foundations have a natural artistic talent and were able to create texture in their marks!

Environmental Studies

What an electric start to the term!

The Senior School have been investigating static electricity and potato powered circuits with some interesting results and lots of fun along the way. We will continue looking into energy for the remainder of the term focussing on how we generate it and its effect on the environment.

The Middle School are busy in the garden, there is so much weeding and watering to do! For the Year 3's it is their first time working in the garden and they have done an amazing job already learning how to use the secateurs and weeding forks. In the science room we are learning about life cycles, we conducted a dissection of a flower and are investigating pollinators.

Junior School are having a wonderful time outdoors getting to know our patch and what we can find in it. The Nature Play program creates an environment for children to explore, create, imagine, learn and grow through hands-on activities and experiences; to promote social, emotional and cognitive skills. We have made some fascinating art works using nature and have started exploring the sounds of nature. We have been visited by several birds during our song time which has led to discussions about the noises birds make and how the communicate.
