6B

By Jess Wood

Welcome to 6B, we are excited for 2022 and what the year will bring. In Year Six, our belief is every student is a leader who leads by example and embodies our school values.  Therefore, we have spent the first two weeks of school learning about ourselves and our class.

Students have explored how they collaborate, the values that are important to them and what it means to be a great leader. While some students have formal leadership roles, we have also been discussing the opportunities all students have within our school, such as peer mediation, welcoming new students and supporting our preppies.

We have begun making connections with our Term One Inquiry Question, ‘How do we develop as a whole child in a global context?’ Students have been investigating the phrase, ‘whole child’ and making links to themselves and how they learn.

In English, we have been developing our research skills through paraphrasing which will lead into our biography unit. Students have begun to identify the purpose behind biographies and why they are written.

During Mathematics and YCDI, we have explored the Zone of Proximal Development and the Learning Norms by unpacking what being challenged looks like. Students have reflected on when learning is too easy or too hard and how that impacts how they learn. Through this, students have learnt what a ‘good fit challenge’ is and the importance of targeting their learning.

We can’t wait to see how our leaders develop over the year and what positive influence they will have over the school.

6B’s Leadership Goals:

Krisha: To listen to everyone’s ideas and see if they are applicable.

Arnav: Taking responsibility for my actions.

Lavendra: Influence others with positive actions.

Austin: To show empathy to others.
