City cafés research excursion
The Year 10 Architectural Design classes ventured through inner city Melbourne last week, to collect primary research for their first CAT: a café design for the local Northcote area. In class, students have been learning the different key features of an ideal café and following the design process. This includes writing a brief with their own client, target audience, constraints and purpose for their cafe. What makes their cafe appealing? What makes it different from others?
On the excursion we made our way through to the city, stopping at varying cafes to collect primary data and research. We spoke to Leo (the manager of the cafe Nico’s in Fitzroy) who explained his idea of a perfectly designed cafe to help improve our own designs. This encouraged further thinking for the students designing their own idealistic cafe. Overall, it was a great day out and students are looking forward to putting their research into action.
