From the Acting Principal

With Term one in full flow, there is much happening within the school, and our message to students has been to get involved as much as they can. With the Production team reporting that there were more tryouts than ever before, for the upcoming production of Matilda, and the Sport team also reporting record breaking sign-ups, we can see that our students are embracing getting back into all the extracurricular activities available.

Beyond the production and our inter-school sports, we are excited to have our clubs program back up and running, with 20 fabulous clubs and activities running during the week. These include clubs such as Art Club, STEM club, FemCo, and Debating as well as some newly created ones such as STEM Video Game Competition and Cosplay.

Last week as part of the International Day for Women and Girls in Science, our local State Member Kat Theophanous visited the school to meet with students to discuss their interest in Science. Gabby and Annabelle are studying the new Year 10 subject, “What makes us sick?” with Ms Broch. They discussed their interest in Science subjects and what had generated their interest. Kat spoke to them about future careers for Girls and Women and issues such as the gender pay gap and career opportunities. Kat then visited one of our Science classrooms and spoke about her support for the Masterplan and STEM centre and the opportunities this would bring for the students at our school.

Kat was welcomed to the school by the school captains speaking about what they enjoyed about the school and their career aspirations. It was a great opportunity for the school to discuss our future goals for students and also great that we are now able to welcome a limited number of visitors onsite.

We are waiting on confirmation of the new COVIDsafe measures in schools, however, the Department has indicated that Rapid Antigen Testing will continue throughout Term 1.

The Daily reports on covid cases onsite show how important the use of the RA Testing has been. Many of the cases had already isolated as soon as they realised they had covid-like symptoms and not been onsite while infectious.  Teachers have been posting lesson descriptions via Compass for students who are required to isolate, so that they are able to keep up with their learning.

Again, I ask families to remind their children about the importance of them adopting the COVIDsafe behaviours at school, as well as on their way to and from school. By doing this we hope to continue to keep the number of cases onsite very low and prevent any spread of the virus.

We hope that our families remain well and we look forward to sharing information about the reduction in measures that will hopefully allow us to run our community events in the near future.
