Team Spirit is Our Competitive Edge

SCSA AFL Football Competition

On a freezing Wednesday morning – three teams headed to Royal Park for the SCSA AFL Competition. The Juniors fought hard all day to finish 5th in their division.  The Intermediates played some really high pressure footy in every game. Unfortunately, the scores did not reflect their efforts. They finished 4th in their division.  The Seniors had some tough wins to make it to the Grand Final, but went down to OLSH in a hard fought contest.  Well done to all players for a great day of footy.

Victorian Schools Cup Volleyball

The Academy was excited to announce to its students the return of the Victorian Schools Cup Volleyball tournament for 2022. This was a four-day tournament that ran from Friday, July 29 to Monday, August 1. After two COVID impacted years, it was wonderful to attend this competition and give our students an opportunity to put their skills to the test following weekly training sessions throughout the year. In 2022, we entered six teams for the very first time and this is due to our increased numbers at training. There was a team at each year level from Year 7 to 10 and two senior teams that were a mix of Year 11 & 12 students.

I was incredibly proud of our Year 7 to 10 teams who showed some significant improvement when compared to their performances at the one-day tournament in early May. The skill level has accelerated faster than expected and our incredible coaches of Xin Bao Tan, Angel Lok, Shayla Dang, Kaija Bond, Alice Punaro and our Head Coach Rebecca Arena are showing our students the correct way to play the sport.

Although the aim of this tournament was all about athletic development, we still had some success at this tournament with our Year 9 team just missing out on a bronze medal and the senior A team claiming the silver medal in a close fought 22-25, 22-25 loss in the gold medal game.

A big thank you to Mr. Sam Di Camillo, Mr. John Andritsos and Mr. Rob Huxtable for giving up their time and weekend to support our teams.

We are now looking ahead to the Junior Cup in November where I am excited to see the development of our students again at a competitive level.
