From the Principal

Dear Friends,

I take the opportunity to offer a belated welcome to Semester 2 which has begun in the usual fashion of a full on experience at Oxley. Congratulations to all our students who finished the last semester well, and I trust the break was most refreshing for our families. We have installed a new group of Junior School Student Leaders and have welcomed several new Office and ICT staff this term. They have blended into the College rather well and we appreciate their talented contributions to date.

Of course, the events of some note this semester include our Senior and Junior School productions, and it’s a great pleasure to congratulate everyone involved in yet another amazing Senior School presentation over this week. It is obvious that the cast are enjoying the show which provides an excellent forum for the display of talented choreography, visual effects and singing. Equally, a wonderful orchestra and crew backstage and those on audio-visuals make this production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid most memorable. The College appreciates the work of many in raising such an exceptional show to the anticipated Oxley standard. Congratulations to the production team led by Miss Claire Hogan.

The next couple of weeks hold a celebration of our International student program and the Year 8 camp to the snowfields. Both events will be well received by students, and we are delighted to be able to share life together in such ways. Our co-curriculum provides for strengthening great relationships between students and staff.

Our Junior School is hosting a School at Work morning next Wednesday 10 August, in the Upper Junior School buildings. We welcome anyone interested in Prep enrolments to attend this event and meet the Head of Junior School, Mrs Amy Liddle.

Our Middle Years building program has been somewhat delayed by inclement weather and variable availability of contractors in past months. However, it is now progressing well for an expected gradual occupation during Term 4. The building will be an amazing facility that complements the whole site and the expected landscaping around it. Our ICT staff will also move into some refurbished rooms opposite the Resource Centre, and this will then allow the removal of all remaining temporary buildings in early December.

I am sure our College community will be able to appreciate the state-of-the-art facilities that will be available to students across the whole College in the new year. Those working here are certainly looking forward to the opening of these facilities.

Warm regards,

Douglas Peck
