Peaceful Kids

We are proud to share that St Martin de Porres has implemented 'Peaceful Kids' this year.

Peaceful Kids is an 8 week intensive program based on mindfulness and positive psychology. The program is designed to support children in building their resilience and to support them to develop strategies and skills to lessen anxiety and stress. Our wellbeing team has completed their first eight course with a small group of students from 3-6 this term.

Below is a link attached from the Peaceful Kids website that shares the benefits of mindfulness for parents and children. It is a great resource to read and remind ourselves of the importance of living in the present moment.

Mindfulness has been widely known to improve our overall wellbeing, mental health and our physical health.  The benefits of regular Mindfulness practice have been shown to help relieve stress and anxiety, lower blood pressure, improve the immune system, improve sleep, improve digestive issues, lessen emotional reactivity, increase positivity, and increase relaxation.

Respectful Relationship News

Respectful Relationships continues to be a school wide education program that is embedded in our wellbeing program. Each term the students from Prep to Six engage in two topics from the Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships learning material.

All learning material is easily accessible from the front office and also from the Victorian Department of Education and Training Website. Over the next few weeks students will be engaging with Topic 8 of the learning material ‘Positive gender relations’. Learning activities within this topic focus on building an understanding of the effects of gender based violence and focus on the standards associated with respectful relationships.

Students develop the skills needed to solve problems, set boundaries within relationships and play an active role in the prevention of gender-based violence. The learning material is developmentally age appropriate and moves through the curriculum from Prep to Year 5 & 6. The first three foundation lessons look at the following topics

  • Fair and friendly play
  • What is fair? What is violent?
  • Sharing the play space and equipment

Look out for student work samples and more information about this topic in the next few weeks!
