From the Kitchen

From Erin & Kristen, Kitchen Specialist Team

This term we welcomed Year 5 back into the kitchen after a long hiatus. On the menu was a hearty minestrone soup with alphabet grissini. We celebrated winter vegetables and were lucky to be able to harvest some warrigal greens, saltbush and bay leave for an added flavour hit.

First class cooking in Year 5

By Haya H, 5B

Every week on Tuesday, we get to cook delicious meals with Erin. We have four different groups: Broad Beans, Parsley, Warrigal Greens and Nasturtiums. We made a very yummy vegetable soup served with grissini sticks. We moulded the bread into the first letter of our names - it wasn't too hard to make an H!

My favourite step was mixing the soup on the stove because the smell was amazing! After all the chopping, stirring and baking, it was really nice to sit down and share a meal with the class at the end of the session.

A big thank you to Erin and my mum Heyam for helping us in the kitchen!

Thank you to Haya for sharing her wonderful writing and to Heyam for her amazing photos.
