In the EAL classroom

Welcoming New Arrivals!

From Kimalee, English as Additional Language (EAL) teacher

Now that the international borders have opened up NMPS is welcoming many new students arriving from Vietnam, Finland, Mongolia, Taiwan, Russia, China, India, South Korea, and Japan. It certainly is an exciting time!

Former EAL students will be supported with their English lessons by their classroom teacher, expanding the skills and independence learned during their time in EAL Support Program. Our new arrivals have begun their intensive EAL Support Program English lessons. Many of these students have been in Australia for less than two years whilst some have experienced other English Language Schools such as WELS or CELS, which also engage in interactive, intensive English program content.

The aim of the EAL Support Program is to provide the English language and skills required for successful participation in a mainstream school. Students are explicitly taught English language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) and are encouraged to work in pairs and groups, building their English language skills in authentic language learning contexts. It is fun and interactive!
