Year 7 Camp

Year 7 Camp 2019

On September 24th, 49 Year 7 students took a four hour bus drive to the Yorke Peninsula, to begin our 4 day camp at Butlers Beach. This was the first time our school had ventured to the Yorke peninsula for a Year 7 camp and it was also Wilderness Escapes's first time running a camp in that location.

The camp focussed on building resilience, taking risks and being courageous when confronted with challenging activities. The water based aquatics programme gave students the opportunity to experience surfing at Berry Bay, snorkelling near the coastline in some secluded rock pools and getting plenty of walking in with all of the amazing beaches in the surrounding area. Stargazing at night was a relaxing way to finish the busy day.

I enjoyed my experience at our Year 7 camp to Hillocks Drive, Yorke Peninsula. One exception was that our tent was quite cramped for 3 people, however the excellent staff and instructors had a solution. Seeing there wasn’t much room for all of us and our luggage a camp instructor helped us set up another tent just for luggage which helped with room and made the night so much better. I enjoyed rock pooling the best, the instructors were clear on safety but also allowed lots of room for fun. We were allowed to jump in the amazing crystal clear water of the rock pools. This made it so much more fun because most of us were fully clothed. This camp was by far the best camp I’ve ever been on and my favourite year seven experience so far!

Camp was an amazing experience for me because of everything I got to be involved with and all the jaw dropping sights I got to see. Snorkelling was one of my favourite highlights because I got to see an extremely clear vision of the reef and that's something I definitely don’t regret. Another sight I got to see were the stars in the night sky, the view was really clear because there's not a lot of pollution which allowed us to learn about planets, stars and constellations. If you’re ever in that part of SA I highly recommend visiting all the beaches, especially Ethel Wreck, going on night walks to see the clear sky with all the constellations and getting up as early as possible to experience the sight of the sun rising.
