Our stencil murals are looking good, with the layers gradually building up to create scenes that are rich with Australian wildlife. Year 9 2D art students each drew and cut a two-layer stencil, and we are now using lunchtimes to spray them onto boards to be displayed around the school.

Year 9 and 10 Italian Excursion

After much anticipation, on Thursday the 19th of July, the Year 9 and 10 Italian students eagerly made their way into the city. We have made our way into the spiritual home of Italian food in Melbourne, Lygon Street, in Carlton.

During our visit to Scugnizzo Ristorante, we got a demonstration on how to make gnocchi and pizza. The Year 9’s participated in making the gnocchi, while the Year 10’s participated in making pizza.

To start making the gnocchi, we each took turns putting a potato or two into a potato ricer and using it to finely shred the potato, to make the dough. The potato was mixed with flour and was kneaded until it was ready to be rolled into a sausage and cut into gnocchi pieces. Once that was done, the gnocchi was cooked in a tomato sauce. After the gnocchi and pizza were cooked, we sat down at tables in the restaurant and tasted our culinary preparation.

At Lygon Street, in Carlton, also known as ‘Little Italy’, we completed a scavenger hunt and visited places such as the CO.AS.IT museum and Brunetti. At Brunetti, we were able to buy some classic Italian desserts and some gelato. We had a very fun day participating in a cooking workshop at the restaurant, trying a classic gelato, and buying Italian desserts at Brunetti.
