Year 7 cyber safety and Year 8 cyberbullying incursion | Year 8 Medieval Day

Supporting young people to be safe, responsible and positive online is a key challenge for educators and parents alike.

Recently the team from the Optus Digital Thumbprint program were in the classroom with our Year 7 and 8 students taking them through the fun and interactive workshops that cover a range of important issues such as cybersecurity, cyberbullying, digital discernment, digital balance, and digital identity.

Here is what some Year 7s had to say...

  • I loved it! It taught me a lot. Dom (the facilitator) was really good! - Cuba B 7A
  • It was interesting to hear about the privacy concerns when agreeing to the terms of conditions of social media  - Daniel M 7A
  • Don't accept requests from people you don't know when online. If in doubt, kick them out! - Justin B 7A

It is very important to be aware of these topics so that your child is prepared and supported to thrive in the digital world.  There is a range of free, downloadable Digital Thumbprint Parent Conversation Guides for parents and guardians that support you to have effective conversations around what young people should and shouldn’t share online, cyberbullying, and how digital technology can support effective study practices.

Year 8 Medieval Day

Hear ye, hear ye...as part of Humanities Week, Tuesday 16th August saw the Year 8s getting a glimpse into what it was like in Medieval times.

The students had a great day and were involved in many activities, from archery to role-plays which included dressing up, using stocks, whips and torture instruments.
