Visual Art

As the year steams ahead, it’s lovely to be able to share some completed work with you. Our students are constantly involved in the creative process, from conception to research, development, and refinement. They critically reflect and evaluate to ensure they target intensions with purpose. It is always inspiring to see how they take one topic, a broad theme, some task examples, a set of prescribed criteria and then move in divergent paths to produce unique responses that demonstrate their diversity.

Term One ended with the Year 10 Photography students completing a unit that was enquiry based. They developed competency with the camera and settings while learning about light, composition, focal points, shutter speeds and more. Their statements below highlight for us more clearly some of the journey.

‘I really enjoyed doing the high contrast portrait shoot. The photos looked really cool, and it was interesting to play around with the lighting and settings, editing on Photoshop afterwards. Learning how to use Photoshop properly has been really good, as well as all the camera settings. I am really looking forward to our excursion and hopefully improving my photography skills.’ Amy G

‘I really enjoyed any practical task, especially the high contrast photograph task and the toy story task. We were able to get outside and get experience with the cameras. I learnt numerous things considering aperture and shutter speed along with knowledge around Diane Arbus.’ Brennyn I

‘I really enjoyed doing the high contrast portrait task where we had to take high contrast photos of other people to create different moods within our images. I learnt different definitions and meanings of terms within photography, such as shutter speed and aperture.’ Bryan W

‘The task that I enjoyed the most was the toy story task. I enjoyed going around and taking photos that include a shallow or deep depth of field.’ Jacob B

Please find below a selection of responses to these tasks.

In Visual Communication and Design, both Ms Grbac and Ms De Luca have been guiding the Year 10 and 11 students through technical drawing to develop skills. Whether it be themed transportation or two-point perspective architectural studies, the students respond with care to improve and extend ability.

The Year 7’s completed their Art Elements Unit, working through colour, line, tone, texture, and shape to produce a range of artworks. The work below is impressive; I am sure we will all struggle to vote come October, during the Online Exhibition when all are on display.

Like all things primary, the wonderful Year 2’s produced vibrant, contrasting, textural, expressive paper faces, under the careful guidance of Ms Fisher. They prove how the simplest of mediums can be used to express character and develop fine motor skills.

Till next installment, let’s continue to have fun, be creative and add value…...colour our world.
