Punctuation

In 1/2, we have been learning to place punctuation and correct capital letters into our writing. Check out some of the class rules we have come up with to try help us remember when a full stop is ok.

-Full stop at the end of a sentence.

On Saturday I went to the supermarket to buy a chocolate bar.

-Does it make sense if I stop at the fullstop?

The cat went. Up the tree to catch a bird.

Hmmm, 'The cat went' doesnt make sense on its own. Try 'The cat went up the tree to catch a bird'.

-Is there a person or thing (subject) doing an action (verb)?

On Saturday my mum. Made spagetti meatballs it is. my favourite.

Hmmm, 'On Saturday my mum.'  and 'my favourite' There is a person in my sentence, but no action attached. I can't put a full stop here!

Check out two pieces of work below that show us practising our capitals and fullstops. Our class poster is a reminder of when we use capitals.

Mason was proud of his careful placement of capitals.
Juhkobi read sentences aloud and placed the fullstops in the right spot!
