Learning and Teaching
This week is Reconciliation Week. Across the week, our Learning Communities have been learning about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and peoples. We started the week with a presentation and prayer at Assembly about Reconciliation Week.
The Year 5 and 6 Community visited the National Gallery of Victoria on Monday for a tour of the Indigenous Galleries and a performance workshop with the Indigenous Outreach Projects. During the tour, the students looked at the artwork through the lens of Be Brave, Make Change which is the theme for Reconciliation Week 2022.
As part of the workshop, the children were taught a dance and took part in a fun dance off. Check out the videos below:
Taking what they found out from the excursion and the discussion about the theme 'Be Brave, Make Change', the Year 5 and 6 students met with their Prep buddies to create their own posters for Reconciliation Week. Check them out:
The other communities have been reading and learning about Aboriginal peoples and cultures through literature. Some of the texts they have read are below:
You can find more stories to read with your children via Story box library.
