Student Wellbeing

Paul Lock

Wellbeing Coordinator

We are fortunate at the College to have the vast majority of the staff willing to engage in pastoral care with students. Most staff show a high degree of dedication to the success of each student and a genuine care for their wellbeing.

As a Student Services team, we endeavour to practice early intervention and be proactive in managing student behaviour and wellbeing. We also encourage staff, students and families to report any issues of concern so we can address issues at the emerging, rather than the critical stage.

This term, as for last term, three quarters of our students did not receive a demerit point. Single demerit points are given after two previous efforts by staff have been ignored and the student has had two opportunities to demonstrate the appropriate behaviour i.e. first, ‘please don’t talk over the class instructions’, second, ‘could you please wait until instructions are complete’, and third, ‘unfortunately a Compass report will need to be made’.

Our mid-term reward night was attended by more than seventy students who earned an ice cream, a night off prep, and the showing of a movie in the gym. A welcome change from routine.

A larger Wellbeing and Culture Day is being planned for the 22nd of June as an afternoon and evening event with food, guest speakers, activities, giveaways and sports. More information to come.

Stay safe.
