RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

This week we are celebrating Cathoilc Education Week. Tomorrow the whole school will travel by bus to St Mary’s and join St Brendan’s and St Mary’s schools in our Cathoilc Education Week with a Mass led by Fr Michael.

Following Mass all the children and staff from each school will come together for morning tea and planned activities.

Next Monday we will begin National Reconciliation Week celebrations with a very special guest spending the whole day with us at Sacred Heart. Dr Miriam Rose Ungunmerr Baumann AM was awarded 2021 Senior Australian of the year. She is a renowned Aboriginal Artist and Educator from Nauiyu CommunityDaly River in the Northern Territory.

In 1988 Miriam introduced ‘Dadirri’ to the Australian nation. We will have the opportunity to experience and to learn first hand about Dadirri /Da- did-ee/ Inner deep listening and quiet still awareness. Throughout the day Miriam will be actively involved with our children and staff, painting an art piece for Sacred Heart and discussing Aboriginal culture. The day will end with the singing of the Aboriginal Lord’s Prayer and a traditional Aboriginal cultural dance performed by members of the Nauiyu community.

This is a very exciting time for us all at Sacred Heart to learn about, and make a stronger connection to our First Nations Peoples, particularly during National Reconciliation Week.
