Joeys Yarning Space

We acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians,
past and present of this land of the Aniawan, Banbai, Dunghatte,
Jukambal, Kambawal, Weraera, Kamilaroi, Ngoogabrul and Gumbaynggir as acknowledged by Armidale Lands Council, people who long before us lived,
loved and raised their children on this land.
We also acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families
in our community and acknowledge their deep physical
and spiritual connections to the land.

We welcomed Karen Tighe (Aboriginal Education Officer) and Jodie Herden (Aboriginal author) to St Joseph's as part of our commemoration of National Reconciliation Week 2022.

They helped the children create Gamilaraay family trees and Jodie read from her book STAR DREAMING. She helped the children create artworks based on her book and talked about Gamilaraay language, Sorry Day and National Reconciliation Week.

Jodie donated a signed copy of her book to us.  We thank her for her kind donation and for an amazing afternoon. A special thank you to Mrs Whalan for organising the event and to Mrs Tighe for supporting our school with Aboriginal Education.
