Calendar, Reporting and VCE Notifications
Dear Parents,
We hope that things are going as well as they can as you help your sons work through the challenges of remote learning. Mazenod has opted for a synchronous approach to remote learning, following a normal six period timetable each day to maintain routine and structure for our students. Wherever possible we have maintained connection and relationship during these periods.
I am writing to inform you of some calendar and schedule changes in light of our current remote teaching and learning situation. I have also included an update regarding VCE arrangements for the rest of 2020. We are confident that our students will have every opportunity to perform to their best ability in VCE as the year progresses. It would also be great to get your feedback via the survey recently distributed by our Principal, Tony Coghlan.
Calendar and Reporting Notifications Term 2:
- The Mazenod semester will change at the July term holidays. That is two weeks later than normal. The timetable, exactly as it is now, will run until the July holidays. Any mid-year subject changes for Years 9-11 will take place from the start of Term 3.
- There will be no exams at all in semester 1. The GAT has also been postponed until much later in the year.
- Semester 1 reports will still be produced, with assessment task results and work habits ratings. They will be distributed early in Term 3 to allow students and staff time to complete assessments.
- The three scheduled student free professional practice days all remain in place: Friday June 12th, Friday June 26th last day of term and Monday July 13th first day term 3.
- Years 7-11 classes are continuing an assessment schedule in remote conditions. Each subject is modifying in ways that suit them. Smaller in class tasks and ongoing formative assessment is happening. Feedback via MAZCOM will still be provided as the term progresses.
VCE Update:
- Units 1 & 2 (year 11) and Unit 3 (year 12) will NOT have their study designs modified. They do have normal satisfactory completion requirements. Staff are providing ongoing opportunities for students to demonstrate their understanding through remotely conducted SACs and coursework wherever possible. Students completing remote SACs have an authentication document to sign and return attesting that the work is their own.
- Year 12 Unit 3 SACs will still be required to be completed and the deadline for this has been extended. Some Unit 3 SACs will be held over until we return to classes and maybe conducted in early term 3.
- Unit 4 (Semester 2 for Year 12) will have areas of study reduced in each subject and some reduction to SAC requirements in each subject as well. This reduction in workload will allow us to continue some Unit 3 study and SACs into Term 3 if required.
- Unit 4 final exams will happen in 2020 – either late November or early December. Exam lengths and conditions to be the same, with NO questions on the removed areas of study.
I hope this answers some of your concerns, and as always we are available to help with your concerns and questions.
Mr Noel Jenkinson
