Dickins Room

Marram and Wimbi have had a great week with more children returning which has been met with great excitement at seeing old friends again.  The children enjoyed engaging in many activities outside including the new office area and the baby area. Both of these have seen the children take on new roles and negotiating play experiences.

Wimbi have enjoyed getting outside and making use of the swings, climbing frame and slide area to work on their gross motor skills. The pebble pit has once again proven to be popular and has seen many of the children working together. Wimbi have certainly enjoyed the painting experiences that have continued to be offered, with many of the children engaging in the ‘secret message’ painting which created curiosity and wonder. On Friday, the children started the morning off on the mat singing songs that involved actions that enabled them to use their fine motor skills.

Marram started the week off with making calm down jars and discussions being had around the feelings we have when we may need to use the jars. The children certainly enjoyed making them and watching with amazement as they filled with water and what happened with the sparkles and glitter when they started shaking them. We reflected on Thursday about all the kind acts that people do for us and how it makes us feel. It was lovely to hear that the children appreciated playing with siblings, parents and friends. Thursday also saw as getting outside and enjoy the winter sun which made a nice change to the beginning of the week.

This has been my last week teaching the children. I have loved getting to know them all and watching their development over the last five weeks has been an amazing experience. One I will never forget. I would like to wish the children and their families the very best for the remainder of the year. Many thanks to Al and Mardi for having me in their room. Best Wishes Kara.

We hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxed long weekend.

What a busy week we had. We have loved being teachers, exploring emotions on the felt board, signing in at the beginning of the day and signing out at the end of the day with our gratitude tree and using colours to investigate the Indigenous flag. We had a great science experiment with Cristina where we learnt how an orange floats – a great hands on cause and effect experience whereby the children were able to make predictions about what was happening.

Outdoors the babies continue to be very popular and has enabled some great conversations about care and real life scenarios. Lots of mark marking with the paint brushes – demonstrating great ways to use symbols in play to represent and make meaning. The office area has afforded some of the children to explore their understanding of the ‘virus’ – they had been ‘working from home’ and decided to ‘take a break’ and headed off to ‘Bunnings to get some tools’ and then set about making and fixing things – working collaboratively through identity.

Have a wonderful week!
